Details:
1) Help us raise a minimum amount for charity. Participation in the Mongol Rally obligates teams to raise at least £1000 per car. Based on the changing exchange rate from US dollars to British pounds and the fact that we are taking 2 rather than 1 vehicle (minimum raised is determined by # of vehicles participating), we are aiming to raise at least $5,000. This donation goes directly to Mercy Corps, is tax deductible and eligible for most employer matching programs. Mercy Corps’ mission in Mongolia is wide ranging, from setting up schools and building children’s playgrounds to establishing youth centers and helping find employment opportunities. More than 91% of their resources are allocated to programs that directly assist those in need.
2) You can donate funds to our team, Baatar Hero. This donation is not (yet) tax deductible or eligible for matching. We are working on obtaining 501(c)3 status for our non profit RoamGreen.org advocating for sustainable travel and will update as soon as we achieve tax exempt status. Each team member has already committed to covering their own non-charitable costs such as travel expenses, but we still need to raise money for non cash items that ultimately will be donated to the charities in Mongolia. This includes vehicles, camping equipment, spare tires, and generally the gear we will need to complete this journey. This donation indirectly benefits the charitable organization in Mongolia by not only enabling us to complete the journey and deliver this gear to its destination, but upon our arrival in Ulaan Baatar, the cars will be donated either to be used as service vehicles or auctioned off. We are also donating all of our equipment (tents, sleeping bags, camping gear, etc) to Mongolian travel operators to support locally owned sustainable tourism.
